Hey yall, I like to fly fish for bass, but don`t get to do it much cause I don`t got many bass flies. I was wonderin if yall had any flies that would work for fly fishin. Also, I fly tie, so if yall could tell me the fly and how to tie it, I would really appreciate it! Also perch and crappie flies would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

As I learn unlike where the south where you say bass meaning largemouth the people on these forms assume striped bass. for largemouth for fishin in ponds I stick by small poppers and wooly worms.

The forums here are heavily weighted towards striped bass fishermen in the Northeast...they forget that we do get traffic from places where fishing is actually a year round sport.

I use small poppers, small decievers and small clousers...

I've been using a very heavily dressed Deciever for Largemouth with great success. Like most things it was an accident I tied it up just so I could show this guy how much better a sparcely tied fly works...

Basically its just a deciever - I used a 1/0 salt water hook, did the tail as you normally would but then tied several bunches of bucktail just a 1/4 inch from each other...think it was 4 bunches above and three below and then a bunch as each cheek...each bunch has to be rather small of course or you'll need a 12wt to cast it.

Work a weedline with it as you would with any baitfish pattern very slowly - I think it was the ticket in the murky water.

I use big fat Woolly Buggers w/ good success! Size 6-12; black, olive, brown...Try 'em!

Good luck

For subsurface patterns, I have good luck with materials that provide action with minimal movement. Marabou, zonker strips, and some artificial materials such as unique hair can provide this type of action.

For surface, hard foam or deer hair poppers are great.

Good luck....warmwater flyfishing is another one of my favorites.

How do you fish a wooly bugger?
