I am thinking of buying a fishfinder to use exclusively with my Kayak (The Ride). I could use your experience. What model do you have? Would you buy it again? Pros and Cons. Thanks in advance for your help.

I have a Eagle Fisheasy 2 .Works very well.
The fish finder was probaley my best investment for kayak fishing I made this year.It really sucks to fish with out one now.

So true.
Finder is a great tool.
I have a Hummingbird Pirahna 4.

It's not really for finding fish, but priceless for finding structure and baitfish. That's a generous offer Sam.

Transducer mounted on hull inside kayak. Silicone did not last for me, but marine goop seems just fine. Squeeze to avoid air bubbles..let harden and your in biz.

I have the Bottomline 1200 and have been very happy with it. Cabella's sells this model for less than $100. It's cheap, easy to install, and works great. Like G-Man, I find it best for finding structure though it does mark fish. I suggest you buy the rechargible battery that Cabella's sells if you get one that requires a 12 volt. I don't know what the new models require, but when I bought mine last year I needed a 12v.

Definitely get a fishfinder. Knowing structure and water depths is so important. I couldn't imagine fishing without one.

Eagle Fisheasy II with Cabelas 7a battery. It's been great. Use some dielectric silicon compound to avoid corrosion in fuse holder and contacts. Would guess that would be a common problem to all units used in sw.

I have a Bottomline 1200
some of the Bottomline units have a sidefinder function which works well for shallows.
they scan out 120 ft to one side.

notime...does yours have the sidefinder ?
if it does , how did you mount your transducer ?

It does have one, though I don't use it much. The transducer is attached to a nylon strap and piece of wood. I put it on the bottom of my yak each time I use it and take it off when done. The strap wraps around the bottom of the yak and I tighted the buckle on top of the kayak. Simple, but you have to remember to take if off when landing. Easier said than done.
