Jacob,
I know you mentioned that you had a vise, but if your new to tying I would recommend taking a course it will provide you with some basic knowledge and give you a better idea on what type of equipment and materials you might need.
Hope this helps
Mike

Since I see you live in Boston, I strongly recommend that you to go to a United Fly Tyers Meeting. If you are seriously interested in tying and fly fishing, you should check them out. It may or may not help in terms of your obtaining tools and materials, but it is definitely worth your time.
I used to be a member but work and other concerns have prevented me from attending meetings for a couple of years. They are fun, usually have an excellent speaker, and are full of rabid fly fishers and really professional level tyers who offer free classes (free materials for novice classes). I learned to tie there and picked up some "secret spots" from some of the members as a bonus. They have a monthly featured speaker and have had folks like Bob Popovichs, Lefty Kreh, Mike Martinek, Jack Gartside, etc. Go early for the fly tying lessons. The addy is:

The November UFt meeting is Thursday, Nov. 4, at the Burlington Knights of Columbus Hall. Doors open (Tying begins) 6:30; Program begins at 8:00. November featured speaker is Bill Catherwood.

Generally, one week or so before monthly meetings, the President posts an FYI announcement on the respective boards, with directions.

I live in southeastern FL. Anything like that organization down here? My searches have yielded very little so far.
