Wind died down in some areas last night so I went out looking for surface action under any light I could find. Sat around under some docks where I usually find fish. Action was scarce with bass but, the docks were alive. Silversides were everywhere and I could hear little splashes here and there. Pretty neat to watch, Smelt come up from below and attack silversides. They are fast little fish coming out of no where some times breaking the water. Cool to see a 6-9" fish take a 2-4" fish a few feet away. I tried casting to the area with the smallest sand eel pattern I have (definately small enough) but no taps. Out of the corner of my eye I caught some larger motion with silversides running for their lives. From the darkness into the light came this...very very slow moving, covering a foot of water in a second or so..looked more like it was just floating. Saw a few more, and went home. Skunked on a white deciever. Bait boy has been missing out on alot of bait lately...

That's cool Shaun.
That was a nice mild night last night.
Man, I wish I lived closer to the ocean sometimes.
Eat or be eaten is the life of a fish.

I was in Boston last night for business but canceled my kayaking plans due to NOAA's forcast of gale force winds. Figures.

I dont; even bother going to NOAA website any more. Too many days where they called for big water and its been calm. Or they say calm and its 3-6ft wind chop. There were some NASTY winds in the harbor, and along the ocean side, made for some interesting crossings. But there are a few places to duck them. Snake island for example. Usually with the dominant wind direction you can duck in the lee towards the marinas. Also in the cove accross the water from the boat ramp, usually hidden from wind. The back side of Deer island tight to the cove by the parking lot is a good one too, but all of these places are best at the highest point in the tide or they are a bit shallow since you have to hug the shore line to duck the wind.

Shaun,
How big would you guess the bass in the photo was?

25-30" No bigger than that. They always look bigger in the water. Before I got that pic it came up and circled the piling. Easily wrapped around it and that piling is maybe 18" in diameter or so.
