Do a Google search on "Dan Vise". True rotary for $80. I've got one and it does a good job. Holds the hook rock solid.

Under $100?........Well, I'd probably have to say the Danvise. It's rotary, has a cam lever, and is pretty durable. It will hold a wide variety of hook sizes too.

Downside?.....Some people think it's a bit on the ugly side, but hell, we're not strolling down a runway with these things.

Good luck with your search.

I bought a Anvil for just about $100 from Jim Bender over at The Lower Forty in Worcester. Before you buy one I highly recommend you take a look at this vise!! Hard to beat for the money.

I have never used either of the two vises mentioned. I like the look of the Anvil. I think it comes with both a pedestal and clamp base. Is the Danvise made of a synthetic substance?

Yes, the dan vise is some kind of plastic. If if recall right the jaws to hold the hook are metal.

I have seen the vice, looks great, and I would imagine the true rotary feature would be great for anglers tying fresh water flies.

The beauty come out of the jaws of the vise not the vise itself. I've used a Dan vise now for two years and it works - from size 20 to 4/0. And probably other sizes but those are the ones I've used. It's not chrome but then it doesn't cost $ 200 either.

Theres a vise that imitates Regal vises for $40.00 its called the crown vise, checkk it out on cabelas or bass pro shops, it's rotatory and holds hooks superbly.
Or take a look at Griffin vises.

bEEN USING aNVIL VISE FOR TWO YEARS, PROBABLY SEE 85% TYING THE OTHER VISE IS MASTER AND OLD TRAVEL VISE BY RENZETTI SEE ABOUT 15% OF TYING THESE DAYS - IT'S PRETTY HARD TO BEAT AN ANVIL.

i TIED FROM SIZE 14 TO SIZE 4/0 NO PROBLEM. i WOULD GO SMALLER BUT CAN'T SEE THE HOOK THESE DAYS.

ENOUGH SAID CHECK THE ANVIL. UNDER $100.

So who needs a rotary vise for saltwater fly tying anyway??/
Can someone tell me that? I cant see where it woudl be any better than a good vise that will simply flip over once, like a regal or similar model does.?

Rotary vises were designed for fresh water fly tyers tying bucktails and streamers for trout and salmon.

Real saltwater fly tyers use strong stationary vises with kevlar thread for tying, enough said
