My first flies... here's a blog entry I made on them (http://nslog.com/archives/2003/11/04/flying_ties.php).

The people at Bass Pro told me they were quite good, but I don't know if I believe them. I'm going to try to get a better picture soon.

Anyone have feedback? Or are the pictures too poor? Or could you not care less? :) I appreciate any criticism (or praise, but I see that as unlikely).

Nice Job.... The Hy-tye one looks alot like the old classic fly called the Blockbuster Originated by Mark Sosin and tied by Bud Church... and a good fly to practice the hy-tye method.

Very good start.

Keep at it and you will learn what techiques work well for you and get better. Eventually you will start to create your own patterns or versions of classics. You can also create patterns for your fishing areas. For example I have 2 sandeels patterns I made for flats fishing that are have proven to be very affective.

Try to make one pattern per week over the winter. You will get better while filling you fly boxes for the season ahead. I tie flies by the dozen. I give away a fair amount during the year too.

What season? I live in Florida! :)

Good advice, though. I am going to use the same rod/reel/line/etc for both bass and saltwater species (I find joy in just fishing, not necessarily spending $4k to have the "best" equipment for each specific purpose), so I'll be making all varieties of flies - bass, tarpon, etc. Should keep me busy. :)

Just gotta go make some bookmarks. I know this site (reel-time.com) has several tutorials. Those are high on my list.

Iacas, for you living in florida (I do as well) you might want to check out floridasportsman.com.

I will add more links a little later tonight I have found over the years as im at scholl right now and don't have them. But my site fly-rodding.net has recently add a step-by-step fly tying section with new patterns being added every weekend.
