Ok. I have volunteered to be the swapmaster for the season's first swap.

The theme is lefty's deceiver.

The deadline for your submissions is December 15. That should remain pretty firm because of the due date's proximity to holiday madness.

We will limit the swap size to 12 (11 plus me.) I will close the sign-up when we reach that number.

When you have finished tying one dozen flies of the same pattern, private mail me for my address.

Please refer to the excellent F.A.Q. on swaps. It is very helpful and should answer any and all questions.

Looking forward to it.

QuickSilver - Now you are going to make me really have to take my time and make the Deceivers nice. Well, at least one of my flies will be framed. Thanks.

Hey guys as I mentioned before I would love to get in on this one. However I don't have a vise, but I do have a b day coming up in a week, hopefully I will get it then. So I will have to pass on this one. Maybe we can do a few more before spring time? How many do you typically do in a winter?

How hard to tie is a Deceiver? If you're one person short when it's all said and done, I'll find a good pattern and recipe and contribute.

Originally I replied and said "I'm in" but my mind was thinking of a clouser instead of a deceiver. Hence the "edited" bit...

I'm new, but I catch on quick and could tie some serviceable flies. So, if you end up one short, let me know.

Since I'm not catching fish, I might as well tie some flies. I'm in. Deceivers, hummm. How about all Chartreuse or Chart./over white or Chart.+Olive over white. Basically something in the green family.

OK, here is a photo of the flies that I am going to contribute to the Deceiver Swap. This Deceiver is an exact copy of the one that Lefty sent me in 1990 and described it as his favorite way to tie this pattern.

I'll tie a deceiver that I've used for several years in many conditions and it has almost never not produced. White, brown, black. I'll post a photo later. If I have one that isn't beat up (they seem to work well even beat up) I'll photograph it and post it in the next few days. Otherwise the 1st one for the swap I'll post.

Thanks.

I have a "Fire Tiger" Deceiver that has worked in salt as well as fresh. For the fresh water version, I like to put a little mono lip covered on with Softex. Kind'a gives it a little extra jiggle. Besides, it'll be a couple of weeks before I can go hunting again, NASCAR is over this weekend and the weather on the weekends really s**ks. Besides, as long as I'm in my room tying, I'm not out getting into trouble....like visiting FTU or Anglers Edge or Orvis or Carter's Country or.........I'll try and get a .pic on the board this week. Great looking fly, Flytyer. Just out of curiousity Flytyer, What model Dyna-King do you use. I've been looking into buying one?

Thanx.

Johnny P. Thanks for the nice comments on the fly.

I use a Dyna King Aristocrate. I have several of them from when we were tying commerically. I bought mine when they first came out and the only problem that I have had with it is the regular maintainence and that was not really a problem.

I have no idea how many 100s of dozens of flies that vise has helped tie and it is still as good as when I bought it.

OK, I know it's a little fuzzy but gimme' a break. I'm just getting in to this Hi Tech photography. Anyway, it will give you a shot at the basic look. Believe me, it looks much sharper in person.

Since Animal Chris' fly is all chartreuse, my deciever will be the classic chartreuce over white. I hope it will hold up against the others. Since we've had these crazy winds for the past two days, I decided to get started. Check it out.
