A little late to post but you never know..........
I am heading to Tulum (2 hrs south of Cancun) next week and am an avid surf fisherman in the Northeast. Has anyone had any luck casting an 8 1/2 with plugs or poppers in the surf along this stretch? I would expect some Jack to be around but any other info / stories would be great.
Tight lines,

I was there just about a year ago to date on my honeymoon. I am an avid fly fishermen but didn't bring any gear. While swimming in the surf there were plenty of fish to be had. There were numerous occasions while swimming that you had Jacks as well as small Bones riding the surf right by you. A few times I thought they were going to collide right into me. I didn't really see any big fish but definitely enough to keep you interested. Next time I head down there I will be bringing the 9W.
Good luck. The water is nice and warm this time a year.

Hey Sage,
Thanks for getting back to me. The vision of bones and jack cruising the surf just made my weekend. I am heading off on Monday morning. I'll let you know how things turn out.
Thanks again,

No problem Merlin. I was actually surprised to see a post for that area.
If it helps you out at all we stayed at the Iberostar Parisimo Del Mar resort. All of the fish I had seen were right out in front of the beach on the resort.
Another great spot, if you don't know already, is Xceret. I may have spelled that wrong. I think it may actually be right near Tulum. I do know it's south of Playa Del Carmen. Anyway. That is a great spot for snorkeling. We must have swam with 50 different types of fish. Absolutely amazing area. I highly recommend stopping by there. They make great drinks there as well.:-%
How did that trip go? I'm heading to playa del carmen over christmas w/ my folks and am planning on bringing my 8 wt down. I would love to catch a few jacks or bones. If you have any info on a good guide, any specific spots worth trying from shore in the area, or effective patterns, I would love to hear about them. Thanks and hope your trip went well.
