Heading to the paradise island (zoo) in two weeks and I am looking for a day of reprieve...a day trip to a decent flat. Any leads on getting off the island for a day to andros or other that's not too complicated. Looks like bahamas air has some flights but looking for some practitcal experience.

Have spent time on fishing trips on islands but not a day trip from Nassau like this!!

Also, how about areas on the island (Nassau-paradise island) i can get to for a morning or a couple of hours?

I don't think you'll find much flats-wise around New Providence I. (Nassau), but check this thread ( http://reel-time.com/forum/showthread.php?threadid=7622&highlight=nassau) or do a search for "Nassau" in the archives. The "fast ferry" idea to Spanish Wells or Harbour Island has some distinct merit. Both Islands have miles of nearly empty (of fisherman, not fish) flats. Others can probably advise specific areas to fish, although I think a search will probably yeild results on both islands.
Good luck, don't forget to post your findings and results.

Wynstyn- check out a post made by Dave Charbuck a couple of years ago about HI. You can get in touch with Dave as he is a moderator on this site. He's good about sharing info.

Thanks for all the info. a great start. Now I'm debating over flights v. ferry. Ferry goes to Spanish Wells & Harbour Island. Flights go from Nassau to Governor's Harbour (and back). Not to mention Exhuma & Marsh Creek (the trick w/ flights is scheduling the same day round trip). So far it seems flights run about $100 - $120 RT and ferry is $110 RT.

I will keep everyone posted as to the plan and hopefully it will serve as a good resource for all.

If you have any further suggestions, the ultimate plan is still open.

Wynstyn,

I just got back from Andros this week. The waether was rough, but as usual the trip was great overall.

Bahamas Air has been less than wonderful on my last two trips. I just flew Western Air to San Andros for $100 rnd trip. The flights were on time too! --125-3

If you've never been to Andros and want an easy going, hard working guide at an affordable price, e-mail me. He uses a Maverick flats boat with a Yammie 90 and will put you on lots of bones throughout the Joulters' wadable flats.

Thanks for the input...I too have seen the bahamas-air cluster of an operation, that's why I was a little concerned on a day trip, when the return is somewhat of an essential element.

I noticed the western-air schedule and they seem to specialize in more of the day trip element, so I might just give them a try. (For anyone wondering, here is their website: http://www.westernairbahamas.com)

Thanks again.

I just want to thank everyone for their input. The trip went reasonably well, with the only drawback - the little amount of time I dedicated to fishing (wish I had more).

Arrived in Nassau around 3 p.m., settled into the hotel - dinner that evening and confirmed my plan to Andros for the following morning. Although the wind was ripping, still decided to make a go at it. Since Bahamas-air was on strike, I was glad to have booked Western Air. (A nice operation).

The next morning, took a cab to the airport w/ a stop at Dunkin Donuts. En route, the cab had a blowout...caught another and made the 8:15 flight to San Andros (airline was on time and smooth).

Fished the day at Joulter's at the recommendation of Paul (above) w/ his known guide, Elias - had a blast and caught some fish before racing back to the catch the return flight.

Back to the hotel in time for dinner. A nice little escape.

Thanks again.
