Practicing some work with deer hair so I tried to copy the style I saw on the cover of the current issue of "Fly Tyer".. not even close to what that guy did in fly tyer..it takes him 4 to 6 hours. I could not go more than an hour.

That is a kick A$$ fly!
So the whole fly is spun deer hair then trimmed? I guess I should pick up a copy of the magazine...How difficult would it be to sub some of the tail section with a hackle feather or something to give the tail a a little more action than the stiff deer hair?

Ruge... I think anything goes with this... The guy who does this does freshwater fish and has done a bonefish..he is in the Mid West. It is all spun except fo the top and bottoms. I think more decorative than practical... but doing these is good practice .

Geez I'm impressed.
I have a hard enough time making the heads on snake flies...
Stripers don't seem to mind but I can't get over the shame I feel when my buddy wants to see what I'm using...basically a glorified hairball.
