Here is a first attempt at a Skate fly. This is the Clear-nose juvie skate. The body is more rounded than the adult. The body id done with Ringneck pheasant WING feathers instead of the neck feathers. The tail is three different lengths and colors of the Indian Cock Ginger saddles... dark below light. with some gold krystal flash. There are two large dunbell eyes below and the bottom is painted white covered with hard as hull. The top is covered with a thin coat of epoxy. I will reconfigure to make it lighter and substitute soft body for the epoxy on a working fly. I am concerned about the hook workability and need to figure a way to make this lighter for casting... It does need to be somewhat heavy to get to and stay on the bottom. This first step was to establish a color pattern and I will move on from there.

As usual, a work of art. If I could find a way to keep a sinking line from fouling on muscles and cobbles that would be a killer fly for Boston harbor considering the overwhelming number of the rats...
