If anyone has yet to recover from Albie fever I may have the remedy. I am planning to shore fish and kayak in the vicinity of Cape Lookout Light and would appreciate the company. My plan is to drive to NJ Friday evening 11/21 and set out the following morning for Harker's. I was thinking of staying until the morning of Wed 11/26. I could be persuaded to alter those plans to meet someone else's shedule. My plans would be to then return to NJ and I could drop off my passenger en route to an airport or train depot. From what I hear the FA action is only going to get better and the long range weather forcast looks promising. So send me a pm and I'll share the info Ive been collecting. Here is to Albie fever!
I may camp at the Lighthouse or find a motel, depending on how cold it is. I might also be interested in a charter if the price is right and conditions are good.

I left a post on this forum regarding a trip to Harkers not too long ago. I have winterized the motor and put the boat away, but I am tempted to join you. I have been there once, and it happens to have been during the time frame you are considering. A cold front of historic proportions swept through the south while I was there. My trip was a disaster. I tried to pm you, but the site, or my computer had problems. Questions- have you been there before? Are you driving to Harkers? If you are are driving what is your vehicle? I would want to bring my deflated inflatable and a 15 hp outboard.

I'm glad you replied. I looked for your Harker's post but I couldn't find it I tried to send you a PM is but your mailbox is full. I have not been to HI but I am getting the lay of the land from web and phone calls. It was my intention to shore fish and camp in the vicinity of the Cape Lookout lighthouse where the chances of hooking an Albie are the best. There also have been limit catches of seatrout and weakies there recently. Yes, I am driving. We could stow your inflatable in my Subaru outback. My plans did include a sleepover in New Jersey but with an extra driver we might decide to drive straight through. There are a few complications that might interfere with plans but I'd rather send you a pm to discuss things further.

If for some reason my Harker's Island plans fall through I would consider RI. In particular Block Island where the beginning of last week, before the blow, 40 lbers were being caught. Even now I heard that yesterday 40lbers were on 4 lb pogies in the town of Narragansett according to Quaker Lane. But what is a 40 lb bass compared to a 20 lb tuna! I am definately leaning toward leaving Friday and arriving at Harker's Island sometime Saturday. Things opened up down there today which is what everyone has been patiently waiting for. Now loads of bait is moving out of the huge bay there and Albies are wrecking havoc slashing through the bait balls. There were many hook ups today according to Calico Jack's. They predict solid action until December like last year only that the water is warmer this year.

Matt

Attention Lurkers!
Dennis of Harker's Island Tackle Co posted this report for Monday 11/17:
"False albacore fishing is finally good. Fishing was good today on the East Side just off from the East Slough Buoy and also at AR 285. Fishing was also good in the Hook but there was more boat traffic. I even heard that there were some fish over 15# caught from the Spit. Quite a few speckled and gray trout were caught at the Cape Lookout Rock Jetty. Gray trout were caught also on the East Side around the East Slough Buoy."

I am still looking for someone willing to join me. Send me a pm if you are interested. 15 lb Albies from the spit! (which is from shore!)
