I fish out of Hilton Head SC and we have lots of spadefish at our near-shore wrecks eating jelly-balls during the Spring and Summer. Does anyone have a fly pattern that has worked with spadefish near the surface? We can catch them on small gold hooks baited with pieces of jelly-ball , but have had no luck with a fly. THANKS FOR ANY SUGGESTIONS. rpatterson@jsplaw.net

We have a healthy run of spadefish here in the summer, I have caught them on fleshtype flies (tan and brown marabou) that look like clams. We simply chum them with cut up clams and cast into the feeding fish. I have also caught them on gotcha tied in tan.
