I have done a search on Grand Cayman, and there is precious little info in the archives or on the web, beyond the one guide down there. I plan on hiring him for a day and then going it alone. For anyone who has been there before, I would be greatly indebted for any information on any locations to try or any tips you might have picked up. I will be staying along Seven Mile Beach during February, if that helps at all. Feel free to contact me off line at billhession@hotmail.com if you'd rather not post your hard earned information. Thanks in advance.

Please do not go to Grand Cayman for the inshore flyfishing. You will be disappointed. It is a great place for scuba, snorkle, shopping and not flyfishing. I have been there five times. The flyfishing is best in the Caymans at Little Cayman. It is East by small plane and you can stay there with advanced reservations at three or more places. There you will find bones, permit and tarpon. A guide will get you to a flat or shoal and wading is the ticket. The fish are educated but catchable.

Drive in your rental car up to an area near "Breakers" on the east side of the island (Grand Cayman) and fish any of those flats right by the road. Pleny of small bonefish and jacks. The bonefish were NOT dumb...

Be careful of who you hire to take you out. If it seems cheap there is a reason. I hired a guide for a "bonefishing tarpon trip". The tarpon fishing consisted of fishing from the old Greaty White boat while it was docked in the small marina with cut up reef fish that were caught on his previous trip. Rods stayed in the road holder for about a half hour. He decided no tarpon so we went reef fishing for the rest of the day. Caught a few small reef fish. Did hook up with a baracude that was the excitement of the trip. Snapped my line after a few jumps. There are tarpon everywhere but areas where they were seen are for snorkeling. Better off snorkeling and scube if you are on Grand Cayman. Did fish from the beach but nothing worth while. It was the 7 mile beach area. I am sure there are areas worth the effort but don't know where they are. It is a great place but need some good local advice to catch fish.
