If you are going to launch from Pebble Beach in Rockport, let me know. Wouldn't want to miss that.

I think you'll be fine, but keep a whistle on the vest just in case.

Were taking inflatable alligators right?

I was thinking swimmies and float tubes but if you are more comfortable with an alligator then sure.

Good point on the whistle... maybe a Bic Lighter would be a good idea too.

I got a 5mm wetsuit that I think I can get back into, I'll just go swim out with that on.

when seas are 8 to 16ft do you need to Jig or do you let the waves do the work? 50 kt winds tend to blow a belly in my line how do you maintain line control ...oh yea ...you must be using braid or one of those gelspun line.

In that kind of sea can a flatwing get deep enough or are you FORCED to use clousers?????

Peter -
I just stick with my usual 50lb Dacron but upgrade the jig to the 40-60oz class. Makes for a good workout. Good point on using the waves to augment your jigging action. I'll have to try that.

jswegel -
You can get away with Flatwings it you bump up the sink tip to a 24" length of 1/2 stainless steel cable. Cod can be leader shy though so I wouldn't go any thicker than that.

Crap my swimmies are only rated for 8-21 footers. That extra height and the cinderblock weights I use will swamp me. Ahh well, guess I will be waiting till next weekend...

Anyone want to go spearfishing for smelt?...its a real challenge.. especially at night.

Sam-

I find that eight to ten feet of yellow rubberized chain not only works, but can also act as an attractor. With the plummeting barometer, cod can get picky. You'll probably have to leave your 4 wt at home, though, and move up to a 6. Just watch the backcast.

Please, dress properly! Wear a brimmed hat ! You don't want to get a hook in the ear !

As far as the jigging goes, I prefer to tie an 80lb braid directly onto my ankle, I let them take it until the line digs deep enough to touch the bone, then I set the hook. Oh, you can easily get away with the 5/8" cable, but above 3/4", my strikes seem to be reduced. I just want to make sure I'm right, meeting on Joppa the low moon tide, then swimming out through the mouth on the outgoing with a NE wind right?

Now Mike.... this is a forum for serious kayakers. Take your bunny slope ideas elsewhere.

For all you real kayakers out there, this Saturday at midnight, we will be launching our freshly greased yaks off the cliffs of Halibut Point on Cape Ann. There will be prizes for those who are able to properly execute eskimo rolls while sliding down the rocks.

What do I get if I do an eskimo role in my 16ft SOT--125-3 --125-3

i've been thinking about launching my boat off the cliffs at halibut...
20ft lund, 70 suzuki....but with some help from watching Back to the Future a few times
I rigged the engine so that the intake accepts rocks, dirt AND water.
I've been building the roller platform for some while,
sounds like this weekend will be perfect to just shove her right off !!

We haven't even made it t Xmas and you guys are seal launching 20 foot Lunds. Most people look at the bands on Wooly caterpllars or how high a spot the Lady Bugs pick to hibernate but I think we got another sign of a long winter to watch now.

this is going to be a rather long, painful, winter ;)
