Looking back on my exploration of Boston Harbor with the yak, I realize that I still have a lot of water to cover. I'm sure that people could fish The Haba for decades and still find something new each time. One of my resolutions for 2004 will be to take my blinders off and start exploring the southern half of my home waters. To date, I've covered just about every inch from the Charles river locks, along the north side of the harbor to Dear Island, down to Hull and all of the outer islands.
What do you guys have on tap for 04? Going to work certain areas harder and really get to know them? Going exploring? Outside the state? Outside the country?

Spend less time hitting the snooze buttonr before work.
Every summer my family goes to the OBX. Every year I bring my kayak, and every year I drool over the mouth of Oregon inet. Especially this year since I saw fish biger than me break the water offshore. Every year I say, this is the year. Every year I wade. So, once again, this is the year.
Spend more time fishing for mermaids, I mean unicorns, I mean jackalopes, I mean weakfish.
More use of floating line, and black flies.
More time at Nauset Marsh this spring
Around the tip of South Monomoy and back (Pollock Rip).
Cuttyhunk, no ferry.
Fisher's island - never got a good chance to do it this year.
More time around Rockport and Gloucester in the summer.
Most of all, get my girlfriend a kayak so she can see what a the ocean looks like to us. Teach her to fly fish (she actually wants to do this thank god!).
More time surfing my kayak.

More use of floating line, and black flies.

and black flies...
And...
Teach her to fly fish (she actually wants to do this thank god!).
Better do that before contemplating marriage...cuz that's just one of the things that won't be happening if a ring hits that finger...--123-3
Sorry, couldn't resist...

Pebble Beach and Thatchers Island up @ Rockport will get more attention in 04. I got to fish that area in September, about 5 trips and had a blast. Big bass and blues caught.
Exploring Nahants' coastline up to Salem had its rewards too, and will get more attention in 04 as well.
I got to fish Joppa Flats in Late August early September twice. I was rewarded with a nice 38lb bass up there right up at the drawbridge. I will visit there in the late spring.
As far as my homebase around Winthrop in 03, it was nice to launch out of my yard and into the drink in about 5 minutes. The area where I live is by the 5 sisters. I spent a lot of time around here and was rewarded with some decent catches. I know where the cod hang now here and will get a shot at them in April. I am adding a livewell to the yak this offseason and hope to liveline alwife for a monster bass.
This was my first year utilizing the kayak as a fishing tool in the salt. Why I waited so long I have no idea. What the hell was I thinking? 03 was the best fishing year I have ever had vs Mr and Mrs. Bass and after trying the yak I will never go back....Happy Holidays! :-%

In addition to catching a giant squid, I'd really like to take the Yak out more at night I only did that twice this year, next year I may only be out during the day twice.
