As winter begins, I am trying to imagine a trip in March or so for bonefish---to get me through the cold, non-fishing months with my sanity intact.

Anyone out there ever try do-it-yourself bonefishing in Bimini or the Berry Islands, in the Bahamas?

Looks like there may be good spots to fish in one of those two places without a guide, and they appear to be close enough to Miami that you could get there without going through Nassau, and without going to one of the more (over)developed islands.

I'd probably do some guided fishing also, but I really enjoy the solo/wilderness efforts most of all. Anyone have experience with March flats fishing locations?

I lived on andros for three years and have made several trips to yhe berry Islands with my father. Ther is plenty of bushwaking potential anywhere in the Out Islands. You just have to remember you can waste alot of precious vacation time on the learn curve. You may be able to hire a local with a boat to take you to some good fishing areas. If you have the equipment and flyfishing knowhow then all you need is a water taxi and little local knowledge. Dony necessarily have to fish flats either there all big fish to be had in the surf and around marinas & jettys as well. Be careful Theres no coast gaurd to speak of. Good luck I love the do it yourself spirit you may not catch as many but the ones you do will be all yours.
