Has anyone fished with this rod or any Scott rod for that matter? I like the feel of this rod but have never fished a rod with this ferrule system. Has it caused anyone any problems or is it better than other connections? Thanks for your opinions.

I fished a scott SAS 909 with a Lee Wulff Bermuda Triangle line in Lousiana for Reds, Casted well, fought fish well. Had no issues with the ferrules.

Maybe I am an exception, BUT...I have NEVER casted/fished with a Scott rod that I liked. Ferrule sytem is excellent, however.

I probably own 6 or 8 Scott rods, including a couple that date back to the early 80's when the company was just starting out in. 2 or 3 of the rods I own I've built from blanks.

Ive never had a problem with their ferrule system. I've broken some of my Scotts, but never at the ferrule.

Their early blanks were made by Fisher (sp?), and their own line of rods (Fisher's) used the same ferrule design. I think some of the Lamiglass rods currently use that ferrule as well.

This past season I had the opportunity to fish the SupRply 909-4 and 910-4. I have fished the STS and HP rods for years and have several favorites in each line. I have found that many of the top fly rod manufacturers have moved away from the internal ferrule system, so I have asked them why. Without a doubt it is a more expensive way of making rods. Scott makes these ferrules by hand and fits each one. I have found that it is less likely to come apart while fishing. This being said I have broken all kinds of rods and I do not feel there is any rod on the market that is impervious to breakage. I have found the Scott return policy and people in customer service for the company to be AWESOME, and this is where it counts when rods do break.

I found that most people who tried the Scott S3s rods on my boat last summer really liked them. It was clear that it was a great Striper Rod (esp. the 10 weight) and could cast a variety of lines. This past season we successfully used the 9' 10 weight with floating lines & poppers, clear tip intermediate lines and herring flies, and sinking lines up to 475 grain with large flies. If you are looking for a 4 piece rod for Stripers and Blues this is one of the best on the market. In addition I used the rod in florida for large Snook and Jack's. This rod has great lifting power for powerful fish and travels well.

I've had no trouble whatsoever with the ferrules. Fact is, some of the best rods I've ever cast and fished have been Scotts. I've fished and cast A LOT of rods too. Personally, I think the STS 11 Wt., the STS 12 Wt., and the S3S 7 Wt., are three of the finest fly rods ever made. The STS 11 and S3S 7 are simply the best in their line class by a good margin (or even more than that) over any others I've ever cast in those line weights.

I fish the Scott G series 4 weight for trout. I have broken the rod at the ferrule but that was after 4 or 5 years of use. Repaired without issue. As far as the G series rod I love it very soft/ slow, easy to cast and wonderful to catch trout and small steelhead on.

I think the G series trout rods are about the best trout rods I have fished. I think the 8'4" 5 piece rods 3-5 weight are probably the best of the lot. I also have fished the 883-3 and love it for large rivers and small small trout. The only other rods that fish this well are the Winston LT 5 piece trout rods, and interestingly enough they also use an internal ferrule system. While I was out fishing for trout on the San Jaun and Lee's Ferry I notice alot of the guides are still using the G series rods. I have been using the Scott ARC rods for steelhead and don't think they have made a better rod for steelhead to date. I was bummed when they discontinued the ARC single handed rods (basically a G series rod) and now I am always looking for them in good condition.

I have 2 HP/88 3 piece 10wt. Feel they are worth every penny spent. Not are only the rods great, so is the repair/replacement dept. Broke one near the butt, sent it back, in about 2 weeks received a new rod.
My thought is go the extra yard....my 2 cents
