the most convenient put-in is the public boat ramp on Rte 133 in Essex. the ramp is in front of the Essex Shipbuilding Museum. There is no parking at the ramp. You can park behind the police station for free. To park go up Rte 133 for 100 yards and take a left you will see the station on the left.
you can explore the whole Essex River basin from here. The tip of Crane's beach is a 45 min to 1 hour paddle from the put-in.
