Planning a trip to Puerto Rico March 31 - April 4
25th wedding anniversary. She shops..I fish. Any public access locations where I can idle away the time productively (insert "on the cheap").
Then we will be on a cruise ship April 4-11 to St. Thomas, St. Kitts, Granada, Isla Margarita, Aruba. Any Suggestions on these islands?

Hello, Offshore is kind of tough in the lagoons because of the thick mangroves surrounding the water. here and there are some openings but it is tough. see this link:

The link is for a beach area known to hold fish and has easy access, not too far from San Juan cruise ship area. or for the best local pro. guides contact:

I've looked into this place a couple times, but we never really seriously considered it.
But, there's a small island on the Caribbean side of Puerto Rico called Culebra.
A Puerto Rican friend of mine suggested it to us years ago. It's ultra quiet, and it does have some bone fishing.
But, this is a little off the beaten path if you're looking for more activity.

I've fished PR several times and highly recommend you get in touch with Capt. Omar at the fishinginpuertorico.com link posted above. I wouldn't really consider fishing on my own for both access and safety issues.
I have also fished Culebra and would be happy to give more info. about that island if anyone is interested.

Good article in one of last winter's Rod & Reel issues on bonefishing in the Culebra and Vieques area by Kermit Hummel. Also describes Mark Tomchin's Lapdancer bf pattern that worked well there.

I just came back from Peurto Rico. I did a 1/2 day fishing with Til Brauer At quick silver fishing and we did great! I fished flies and bait and got plenty of tarpon on Bait. We saw a few (big) fishing hitting flies but no luck for me.
I made contact with Til prior to leaving via e-mail, then a cell phone call to seal the deal. It was easy and well worth the trip. Til was one of the best guides I have ever been with. He doesn't play any games and works hard to make the sport happy. He also seems to be far more sensitive to the fishery and environment than most. Its a day I wont soon forget!!
Like you I spent the next seven days on a cruise trying to find good fishing. St Kitts had a few small charters you can hook up on right off the boat, but you are better off if you do some searching on the net and make a few calls to confirm. things change fast so check in with reliable sources close to your fishing dates. I have a lot of (painful) experiece not doing this so e-mail me and I will share with you what not to do.
