I posted a note a bit back that our resort on Barbuda had closed. Well, this was the case, but we found a lady that rrents some cottages on the largely inaccessible North Side of the island (very near the lagoon), and are going to give it a go for 4 nights.

Given the remoteness, it might be a long shot, but has anyone ever fished Barbuda? I'll have access to both a powerboat and sea kayaks, and the lagoon (which is quite large) reportedly has tons of bones and permit, with baby tarpon as well.

The powerboat comes with a captain, but he's more of a tour guide than a flysishing guide by the description. So, it will be essentially DIY. Fly-wise, I'm baffled. I have the standard array of charlies, gotchas and merkins in a few colors, but am not at all sure if I have the right sizes, or if there are other patterns that someone would say are must haves for this part of the world.

Any help appreciated, thanks to all. This board continues to be a great resource.

I have been to Barbuda 30 times, for reasons other than fishing...the bones in the lagoon are small and not too plentiful. It's usually quite windy. For tarpon, you need to go out side the lagoon. As charming and special as the island and the people are, it certainly would not be my choice for bone fishing.
