Oh man thats going to really stink if its true!
I have a Tioga 10 w/ spare spool and recently got a Tioga 8.
I was skeptical after a Store owner mentioned something to that affect. I didn't think much of it after two othre sources claimed it wasn't true.
I should of went with a the open frame Velocity...... --124-3

I talked to the Teton rep at the Marlborough show and she said that yes, the company is in the midst of restructuring under Ch. 11.
I own a Teton Tioga reel and thinks it's a great value. That said, Teton does a few things that just flat out puzzle me. They produce the Teton, a fine reel in it's own right, then sell the Tioga (virtually identical to the Teton save for a slight weight difference) for 60% of the Teton price. What's the incentive to buy the Teton?
Their approach of offering a large arbor spool in a standard width frame never made sense to me either. I looked at a Teton Specialist LA reel at the Marlborough show. The design is an improvement over the Teton and Tioga LA reels, but kind of pricey.
If true I hope they are RESTRUCTURING their finances and come out of it.
Because I believe so much in the product - any of you concerned about the future service for your currently owned #10's feel free to send me a PM and I'll be more than happy to take them off your hands! --125-3

I just got a #12 brand new at a great price. Is this going to be too large for a 9 wt. rod?? It holds 200 yards of 30lb. backing with 10 wt. line.

It depends on your preference. All I can say is that I feel the #10 balances my 8,9 & 10 weight rods better than the #8.
I think you'll be surprised how much backing actually fits on the spool although for NE saltwater you don't need more.
Best of luck,

I tried it out...and the #10 does balance out much better.
Thanks again,

They're great reels.
Balance is something I haven't seen discussed lately.
I 'd forgotten about it until a buddy of mine from the UK who's fishing history is all spey casting mentioned how un-balanced a demo rod was at the show with the reel they had on it.
