Hola fellow fly folks,
After seeing quite a bit of discussion regarding heavy splashdowns on crab patterns, I decided I'd try my hand at creating a crab imitation that is unweighted and rides hook up to reduce snaggyness (sp?). This crafty crab as I call it is made entirely of craft fur and sili legs (mono eyes). It's tied on a bend-back hook which helps achieve the upright drop and proper stance of the critter while sitting on bottom.

Love the translucency of the pattern and the fact that it'd unweigted. Alot of the very small crabs drift in the current and bass really chow down on them! I'm going to tie some in olive!

I like this crab pattern! Very nice! Any chance of posting the recipe?

Nice looking profile as photgraphed. Can we see a side view as well?

Hi gang,
I'm in the process of photographing the tying steps and will post the recipe ASAP. I can tell you that the claws are created by splaying and knotting fur that would normally be "trim-off" after tying the crab body (carapace). This has turned out to be a real time-saver as it eliminates the need to select and tie in another material. Another "plus" of this fly is that I've been able to easily tie it down to a size 10 hook and I'm sure it could go lower than that although it wouldn't be practical.
More to follow soon,

I would be interested to see how it fishes? I tied up a similar pattern and had to add a little weight to the top of the hook shank (bottom of the fly), because the fly would roll over (hook down). Good looking FLY, I am not criticizing just curious.
