Truthfully, I've had this very basic, but effective fly out there for well over a year now. I really enjoy tying bonefish flies. So, I periodically send quantities of experimantal flies to my friend Willard Cleare on Cat Island. He tells me what works, and what doesn't.
This way, I sort of get to bonefish vicariously all year long through Willard. :brow
Here's the recipe:
Hook size: #4. 6
Thread: fine mono
Tail: none
Body: none
Eyes: small stainless bead-chain (a small lead dumbell can be used for mudding fish, or when fish are in deeper water.)
Head: Hot orange/pearl chenille wrapped figure-8 around eyes
Wing: 8-10 strands of orange/black flake Sili-Legs
Another color which works is light/olive/pearl chenille, and barred yellow/gold/black Sili-Legs.
