Going to Bair's in early March and have 2 questions:

1. what's the best way to get there - fly to Ft. Lauderdale or Miami and then get a charter in, or get to Nassau (or somewhere else in the islands) and hop a charter or ferry there?

2. what's the best flyline to be using - most seem to recommend a floating line, whereas it seems to me that an intermediate might be better?

Thanks in advance

Chris,
1. Best way to get there- Mostly you just want to break down the cost but generally you have to overnight on the incoming trip due to customs and flight schedules. I would rather overnight in Ft. Lauderdale or Miami rather then Nassau so I don’t have to goof with spendy Nassau room rates and the Nassau airport.

2. I would also recommend a floating line. Easier to pick up when casting and you can keep track of the tip so you know where your fly is at.

Best floating line seems to be Scientific Anglers Mastery Series Bonefish line (floating).

Chris, Wondering how the trip went I am looking for someplace to go this november. Also how would you rate it for a non-fishing wife that likes to hang in the sun read a book and be left alone.

Joe,

Had planned to post a report but just haven't gotten to it. Trip was fantastic. Good guides, great food, great atmosphere, great fishing. We were there March 7-11 -caught a break with the weather as it blew hard before and again immediately after we left. Caught lot's of bones. Accomodations couldn't be better - we had everything we could need and felt as if we were staying with old friends. The lodge managers, Hal and Laura, were fantastic.

As far as your non-fishing wife, it depends what kind of a non-fishing wife she is. If she likes to hang out by herself, read a book as you say, and just relax for awhile, and she doesn't need to do that at a fancy resort, she'll be fine. But as we were told before we went, there is pretty much nothing do do here but fish. My wife, personally, would have hated it. If you need restaurants and shops and activities etc., you are better off at some other spot at one of the other islands.

This was my first trip to the Bahamas, so I'm not sure what it's like in November, but let me know if you would like more details about the fishing, patterns etc.

Not sure which island the lodge is located on. Check with Bahamas Air
and Western Air out of Nassau --127-3- . Bahamas Air no longer flys to Andros.....Western Air fly 2X
per day...0730 AM and 430 PM......line ? I like the Wulff Salt line..floating...it has some "dimple" in the line and hence it shoot like a cannon !
Good Luck

Enjoy....
