Tom good to see a post from you
You may remember we fished the piscataqua together last june with jeff as well. I sold the boat and got a sea pro with a 75 4 stroke. I looking forward to some Kennebec trips this june, you in.
I have actually been tying steelhead flies. But I need to start making some grocery flies and I want to make up some of those crease flies they look pretty slick and durable. I did also tie some mackeral patterns on some super long shank hooks for bluefish. with the fly back at the bend and about an inch and half of exposed hook shank

I'm am stocking up for the coming year

Clousers - tied with kinky fiber and deer hair
Half and Halfs
Snake flys - black
Deceivers
Crease flys
Bob's Banger

I'd like to add the Big Eye Bait fish for something larger, but I have never tied them. Or some sort of larger fly. I'd love to see a pick of the mackeral clouser or deceivers you're tying.

Last month I was tying flat wing styles. Now I have been working on one aspect that I have kind of avoided for along time, Spinning deer hair. Tying Muddler Minnows and Goddard Caddis for the landlocks in Maine.
It is a good change of pace to kind of get you back on track with the fresh water flies, and it is alot of fun. I will be trying some Snake flies in the near future.

I don't have my two boxes done yet..or even started...one box all sand eels (about 4 differnt tyes)... the other the rest... my FB's, Crab apples, Popovic shrimp..some of my shrimp and some Jim bender flats green shrimp.... a third box at home with squid and a bunch of other assorted flies. I will start posting some sand eels in a couple weeks...Juro's deep eels, Harry's Rat's Arse, etc.

Well I finished my deceivers, groceries, and clousers so now I am working on tying some huge snake flies 6/0.

I love big flies because well they are big and subconsciously they make the strike of even an average schoolie feel like its the BIG ONE.

After that I'll tie some bunny bugs so I can actually catch some fish - hands down my all-time most successful fly.

Wow, didn't notice the dates.. that's pretty cool. To answer, I'm tying lots of different patterns. Sand Eels, Decievers, Angel hair, Bangers, Clousers, merkins and quans (I'm going to florida for reds in March) and lots of Sheep hairs.. I like this pattern, tough as nails and big. Works well for saltwater and pike/musky here at home.. all arounder for me. Haven't even started tying trout flies yet, and as for steelhead, I lose 'em then tie em when I get home.. egg patters and scrambled eggs.. SOOO boring to tie, I treat that like a chore... lucky they only take about a minute a piece or I'd probably quit steelhead fishing! ;) (just kidding of course).

I just got done with a dozen each of my favorite flats flies. One is a small clouser (sorry that's all I can say), the other is an epoxy body sandeel. I swear by both of these flies!!

I hope to start some crab apples tomorrow. I'm going to try using EZ Shape / epoxy for the back.

One is a small clouser (sorry that's all I can say), I think I have seen that one Ray... ;) I will drop a certain green shrimp in your hand when I see you next.... for the same flats we fish..... after you use that in the dolldrums of summer... you will carry a little box of just them. :brow..........BTW... if you want a lighter Crab apple cut out a card board shape... paper about the consistency of a manila folder... and cover that with the epoxy..makes a thinner profile. and is Durable..... for atleast a day. see the pic of the crapoxy , a bonefish crab fly with the thin cardboard inside the epoxy.
