I read about the eatme fly back in 1999 on this forum. I think long before Puglisi patterns appeared on the scene. There appears to be many different opinions on how to tie in the wing material that creates the distinctive look of these flies. Any help?

The "Eat Me" also known as the Hamilton Special is featured in this month's Saltwater Flyfishing magazine. Capt Scott Hamilton's pattern is noticeably different than the Puglisi patterns mostly because of its materials and size... Down here in South Florida you'll also find it in shops called an Eatem which are copies of Scott's original pattern by other local tyers. It's a great pattern for offshore, particularly when combined with live chumming. The magazine article has a detailed recipe for tying it. Back when I used to work at shows as a fly-tyer Scott was there showing folks how to make them. That was at least ten years ago so the pattern has been a local favorite down here for a few years.

Capt. Bob: Do you mean the Feb/Mar. issue of Saltwater Flyfishing magazine? I don't see the pattern in this issue.

It's in a sidebar in the article, "Hooray for Boneheads", in the article they call it the Hamilton Special. The article is in the issue you mentioned,

Thanks, Capt. Bob. I see it now. The reason it didn't catch my eye is because in earlier articles as well as on other websites, the profile of the EatMe fly is much higher, almost like a "high tie" fly. I remember there was considerable debate as to whether Capt. Scott Hamilton's design was the true pattern. Whether it is or not, it looks like a good fly. Thanks for the tip!
