Hello,

I went to Dave Skok's class last weekend, worked with Mushy material and came up with this today. The majority of the fly is marabou with a piece of 1/8 flex-cord to prevent fouling (a piece of marabou is fed through the cord and tied down mid shank) similar to a bonita bunny. I tied little puffs of marabou on both sides of the shank all the way to the front-leaving about an eye and a half to work with in the front and added a lateral line with fire fly flash. I then tied in a clump of mushy fiber on top the same way that Dave Skok does...(if you don't know how to do this go to www.aswf.org and click on tiers, then D. Skok). I then put some eyes on her, epoxied over them and here it is. :brow I like the taper created and I know that the combination of tall fluttering like a wooly bugger and the breathability of the entire fly will entice some strikes. Black is the only color I had...Any suggestions? I included two pics- one dry, one wet. :-%

View from the front...you can see the mushy fiber better.

I have a simular patern we use here in colorado for trout, and they do entice strikes.

Yeah, I think that I have seen the one for trout before. The advantage to using marabou in this case is that you can make it a lot bigger than a bonita bunny. If you use Zonker strips you are limited to the size of the fly- when rapped it only gives you a certain diameter around the hook shank, but with marabou you can make a larger profile fly. I am going to tie one with dark marabou on top and lighter on the bottom. Thanks for the feed back.

Looks like a killer night fly. Very slow retrieve, almost a a dead drift just beneath the surface, on a dead calm glassy new moon night...

What is flex-cord?

Hey John,

That's exactly what I was thinking. Flex-cord is woven plastic in the shape of a tube that is sold in lengths of about 3 feet. It comes it various diameters. It may have another name, but that's what it is called on the packaging that I got it in.

Also, when you cut this stuff a lot of people are using medical carterizers...if you cut the cord and hold it about an 1/8" from a lighter flame it will cinch the fibers down to 1) prevent fraying and 2) not close off the end so that it is still hollow. Carterizers are expensive...

Hmmm, is this stuff available online? Where did you get it?

It's EZ body. The stuff I used is identical to that, it's just called flex-cord. I got it from a shop in Pennsylvania- Silver Springs Outfitters. You can get it at any shop.
