Hi all,
I'm headed to Florida next week and for a few days I'm planning on going to the Everglades. My girlfriend (non-fisher) and I were considering renting a canoe / kayak and doing some backcountry camping and fishing in the park.

Any suggestiions on particular areas of the park to try? I'd love to get a little fishing from the yak in if i could in some of the backwater mangroves, or even beaches, if it makes sense. Any suggestions are much appreciated.

We're also considering a day at Pennecamp St. Park (Key Largo i think), so if you have any suggestions for there as well, that would be great.

I'd love to get a quide, but I think since its just me, and i can't desert her for the day, I'll have to try some on my own.

Thanks much,
Dave

I have more than a few anglers that book me for a day or two then strike out on their own by canoe or kayak. Out of Flamingo there are lots of possibilities. Here's a site that will help you make your plans. Check out EVERGLADESDIARY.COM it will provide lots of info on the various campsites and good advice. You might also want to contact Everglades National Park by phone. I believe they'll send you brochures, etc. Remember that this is their high season with lots of tourists and many days the Lodge and/or campground will be booked up in advance. Here's the visitor center's number: (305)242-7700.

Good Luck
