and I had the best day of the season on the ice. Fished Wequaquet in Barnstable. Flag up even before I bait the second tip up. perch, Flag up on second tip up while trying to set up third tip-up. Since I had only a limited number of shiners I decided to set up a jigging hole between the first two holes and make the shines last. Well I jigged up one of Sam's trophy perch and said heck it's bait and put on the third tip-up. Soon more bait was jigged up so I had two shiners and two perch on the end of lines. During the morning between the shiners and jigging I caught quite a few perch with maybe 8 reaching 12", a couple bass between 2 & 3 pounds, and one 25" pike.
Oh and that first perch bait produce a pike in the low 30's. I got more shiners this afternoon and will return tomorrow morning. All this great fishing and I was the only person on the ice this morning. --127-3-

With a fresh batch of shiners from Sports Port, I headed back out to the area I had fished yesterday, first thing I noticed was that there was a group on the ice already (later found out they had heard my report of the fishing at SP).
These medium shiners were smaller than what I normally consider mediums. The perch had a field day with them. I was getting hits even before I could set the flag. Most of my dozen were gone in the first hour and that was only three tip-ups. Did add more as I caught bait-sized perch. Largest perch of the day weighed in at just under 1 pound.
On one set of double flags, I pulled a 22" 3# (looked well fed) pickeral out of the first hole and a 22" 2# 5oz. pickeral out of the second hole. This fish had a perch in it's mouth and the perch had the shiner/hook in it's mouth.
Ice went from 8.5" to 7.5" in 24 hrs and has begun to have that aireated look.
Won't last long down here (cape) with out another cold snap.

Wish we had that problem up here, I hit one of my favorite hard water lakes for trout today with a buddy, over 40ft of water there was 40" of ice  (our power auger has a 42" shaft) any deeper and I'll need an extention piece

I was out yesterday with a few friends and we were busy...
4# pickerel as soon as I dropped in my second trap tip up wasnt even in the hold and the line took off.
many perch and bass for the next 3 hours..
3 guys 3 1/2 dozen medium shines and we were done in 2 hours..
lost about a inch of ice in that time too with the warm weather.
all in all a great day fishing with friends.

I wish I knew how you feel. The warden let me out for 2 hours yesterday, so I grabbed just the jig sticks and the auger. It was late in the afternoon, so I mostly jigged in old holes (no jokes here). The formerly crappie infested waters of Spy pond were seemingly barren. One white and four yellow perch was all I could muster out of about 40 holes (I'm glad I wasn't drilling them!)
Fortunately, I didn't have a camera...
