Striblue, thank you for coming up with the great idea of a transparent epoxy-based flounder. I hope you don't mind, but here's a variation on your theme - the Flexi-flounder. This one is still transparent, but with a brownish tint and a translucent reflective belly. The body is not epoxy, but the clear elastomeric sealer I have been telling (maybe boring) you guys with. It bends with the bite...
I went with a brown tint for no special reason, other than I am anal and keep seeing tiny brown flounder in our area. I figured, what the --123-3, this is the first-off prototype and I plan to tie/assemble more in different configurations, including clear.
Let me know what you think folks...

Looks good to me... the fins are nicely placed and key to the movement of a generally static bait fish like a flounder. very Nice! I got a response e-mail from Chris Windram who indicated that his experience with all epoxy flies were that they would break. This I had figured but he suggested, and I think a good idea, is to reinforce the clear or colored epoxy with material like the clear nylon mesh as in Nylon stockings.

Thanks!
That's a good idea about the nylon stockings - especially with all the available colors! ;)

This is a derivitive of striblue's epoxy flounder, found in the "New Fly - Chatham Glass Flat" thread. I guess I never really explained the technique I used, but instead of epoxy, I used a clear elastomeric sealer, which can be found in various hardware stores, Lowes, Home Depot, etc. Some of the brands are DAP, Red Devil and Lexel. This stuff is very adhesive, will stick to just about anything, waterproof, paintable and dries clear.
I'll post the recipe soon...
