Hit the ice friday afternoon, had a few flags, only pickeral, but I got a chance to take a good picture of the circle hook set up that has been working really well on the tip-ups. I was probably 70yds from the flag when I noticed it, so he was probably munching on the shiner for a few minutes before I got to it and set the hook(just clamp down on the line, no need to pull set).
I highly recommend for icefishermen to try out the circle hooks, it saves fish you don't want, and saves your hands from the cold when you have to break off a gut hooked fish and retie in negitive degree weather.
I'm curious to try it out on northerns, I got some big salt water hooks to try with some guitar string, little worried about how they run with the bait clamped in their jaws without swallowing it, but I guess you have to try it out.
Cheers,
Josh
