Broken Back

Broken Back, here are the 2 flys one regular tie an one w/broken back.I tied this fly a while back, wanted to imitate a broken back bait fish, looking for COMMENTS, should I move the hook forward, if I do I would need to extend the back so it will more movement. now the front part turns the way you pull it left - right, cause it light. what you think :confused:

Nice twist on a classic, looks easy to tie to.

How do you plan to fish it? I imagine it would work well if you got it under a blitz and let it sink to the big boys.

maybe add one or two red or pink feathers or buck in there to make it stick out as injured even more?

Well this comment depends entirely on what the connection is that forms the broken back - I can't make it out - if the front is an independent tube fly don't bother reading.

By having the hook in the rear rather than the front when you catch a fish that connection must bear the strain - whole weakest link deal. I tie a broken back fly where the rear section is tied on 50# mono and has a wire loop to loop connection to the hook of the main fly...if it breaks on the water I don't lose a fish, can loop on another tail - of various lengths - or just fish the main fly.

O.K. one at a time
1. I should say the TOP fly is the same BUT the HOOK is in front,MONO back
2. it's NOT on a tube. it's on MONO
3.as far as fishing it, the BOTTOM one has MORE ACTION you need to be up looking DOWN on the fly to give it the action it needs ( RIGHT-LEFT) w/ the movement of the rod pointing in that direction. w/ the front being the LIGHT part it's easy to do while watching it. if not, it doesn't work well,
so thats the bad part. MABY EXTENDING the back more will give it MORE SELF MOVEMENT?
