Got skunked on a set back on the Connecticut River this morning 6am-10:30am, targeting the big’ins with 7” shiners just above weed line in 12ft of water. It was a beautiful morning though, not a cloud in the sky and in the 20s by 8am.

How's the snow pack up there? Less or more than last year? Just trying to predict the flood potential on the lower CT river in April/May, where I sometimes fish. Of course, a lot of other things can affect this between now and then.
I imagine the river ice floes could be interesting at breakup this spring  .

This winter has been pretty much the same as last for us, started off strong, then warmed up with not much new snowfall. There is about a foot of dense snow thats iced over, the river has a bit of ice, I fish the section of the river just north of the Wilder Dam, so the water is always slow moving, probably 30" of ice on the set backs and 15" on the river itself.
Unless we get a few big storms I don't think run off will be that bad.
Cheers,
Josh
ps: do you striper fish the Conn in the spring?

I've only caught them incidentally while shad fishing in Holyoke, but I may target them more this spring during the run. It's a big striper fishery, one of the most underrated in the region. Unfortunately, declining blueback herring runs may threaten all that. The Conn state ban will help, if enforced. I wish Mass would do the same, at least in the CT river.

I tried the Enfield Dam a few times a few years ago. Everyone was "snagging and chucking" herring. Some good sized fish there. I did pretty well with big plastics (9" sluggo) and bet that a 10" fin-s would do well on a light (1/2 oz). The best spots were a long cast out. It can be a dangerous place to fish with the current.
All in all, there are probably better spots to try than the Enfield Dam, but the Dam has easy access (and crowds).
