Some guys pulled an absurd number of walleye out of the ct river this weekend, and had pictures to prove it. Is it walleye time or were these guys sitting on a secret warm water flow?

Still a little early for us up here, another week and I'll start fishing the open water below the Wilder Dam in White River Jct, NH/VT, where are they catching them by you? Through the ice or open water?

I bet with all this warm water they will start moving upstream pretty good, usaully the bite comes on at the end of March for us, but might be sooner with this weather.

Thanks,

Josh

All I know is they were somewhere in Mass, on a boat, and fishing depths of 20-60' with jigs. It kinda gets me tempted to run up to turners falls in the morning, but still seems like a shot in the dark especially with the hour drive.

I'd give it a shot, with the warm weather and run off coming down, they might start moving and becoming a little more active, they catch them year around below dams, just heats up during the spawn mid march-may.

If you go let me know how you do,

Cheers,

Just talked to a buddy(1/2 bull****ter 1/2 pretty darn good fisherman) who has been fishing spillways on the CT for walleyes already, on 3 outings this last week only 2 fish, both 20" fish tho(make that 18"). Fished from shore with medium shiners on a floating jig head/ egg sinker set up.

Buts thats way up here in NH/VT, lots of snow and ice still, the bite must be better down there

I say give it a go, being on the water is better then thinking about being on the water for sure....

When I got to Turners Falls the driveway that you use to get near the dam was blocked with posts. Just as well since it's all ice and mud. I walked down behind the dam and found it to be something of a deathtrap. After almost breaking both my shins stepping on ground that wasn't there I reached the outflow pool which was fishable but very cold, being in the shade for basically the whole day. The rest of the area below the dam was covered with weak ice. Upstream I found clear water but no fish. On the way home I fished a piece of the upper Swift for trout, no luck.

We have been slaying the Walleyes here in MA for years. We have also been very successful from shore.

Walleye should be ascending the rivers to spawn pretty soon, as they do in MI over the next couple of weeks. We always manage to get a few "little" one while tossing flies for steelhead. ;) Unfortunately, they close the season on them here from the middle of March until the end of April --124-3
