What's going on with Powell rods?
I've seen several models on sale new at 50% off during the last year. I thought they had decided to just produce just the Tiburon line but the other day I saw that also as a "close-out".
Thanks

Striper33,
This is from a post going back a few months from the new president of The Powell Rod Co. When there was a discussion regarding Powell rods and service. I met Him at the Somerset show and talked at length about the rods and company, he seemed like a straight shooter. You can email him and ask him yourself. (I have a number of Powell AXS rods and love 'em, they are cannons and good fish fighting sticks!)

Hello Gentlemen,
First off, let's try and clear the air regarding some of the eroneous statements being made about Powell Fly Rods by one or two badly misguided folks.
Number one, folks that say they used to be on the guide program and say that they left are not telling the truth. Powell when sold, leveled the playing field and excused all guides from the program, Powell's choice not the the other way around.
Number two, I generally do not comment on malarky on boards except when one goes way overboard and begins to not even be close to the facts, like the situation that we have here. The Powell Fly Rod Company, is open for business everyday, period. There are always those that want to be critical especially when they have a bone to pick, and that's fine. However, the beauty of the board for us manufacturers is, we can make corrections to b.S. like this if you know what I mean.
Third, All Powell rods including the ones sold by Sierra have an Unconditional lifetime warranty. In addition, the AXS rods if not repaired by us are replaced with our new TiMax rods for our standars warranty fee of $50.00, these new rods are an upgaded version of the AXS, and a little different from the Tiboron II.
Four, we moved the company last year to our new location and that did take a bit of a toll on us in terms of turn around, however most of that is behind us now and as many of you know we now sell consumer direct at wholesale prices, and we are seeing sales sky rocket through the roof, and we are in a supply demand scenario currently, and that is why some, and only some of the warranty rods may be backed up, but that is just about over now.
I bring this up tonight for a few different reasons. Some folks could have had a slow experience in warranty and we will take the hit on that as any stand up company should, we aint perfect and never will be, and we will admit to a mistake when we have made one, that's life. That being said, I am not going to let people go unchecked when they are spewing false information, straight up. I will say that I do appreciate you keeping my companies name out there as a topic, thanks.
What I mean is this. If you have had a unpleasant experience on service or whatever, heavens we want to know about it so we can fix it. But for an individual who knows nothing about a company and starts spewing about them going out of business, that it's very unprofesstional especially when you know nothing about the company and the new ownership, it's not good, and I'm glad I'm not you, because you know nothing. And if you are spewing because of rumors then that says alot about you, because that's all it would be is a rumor, not fact.
Your opinion is one thing welcomed, straight up, but lying is another and it's not welcome here, got it.
I would not worry about our rods being covered under warranty because they are, and please come and visit us at some of the shows, somerset being one of them close to you all, please feel free to come on by.
Take care and happy new uear.
If any of you want to talk further then I would like to have you email me or call the factory, because I do not want to use this board for this purpose. So I will not be responding again to this thread, I just felt in necessary to do a little straightening up here.
Take care and happy new uear.
Sincerely,
Keith Bryan

I'm a very happy owner of a Powell 10 wgt, which is pushing 20 years old. Solid fly rods that last.

Everyone talks about RPLXi's, GLX's- but the AXS series from Powell are some great rods. They have a nice feel and can cast a mile into any wind. Well, that's my opinion. My friend recently sent in a rod for repair and said their service was outstanding.
