Hi Folks,

I'm pretty sure that we talked about the new Gilmore reels before but now it's serious. I plan to order an X400DD on Wednesday. I plan to get a standard arbor spool and load it with a 9-wt. line and a large arbor spool for an 8-wt. line. Eventually I may pick up another standard arbor spool for a 10-wt. line.

I've talked to Jim Williams at Just Reels about the Gilmores at length and he really seems to like them. He takes one or two along on all his saltwater trip and has used them for everything from bones, permit, stripers and albies to tarpon and tuna (the larger X425). I've played with the reel at the Somerset show and was impressed.

But this is my last chance for feedback from my fly fishing brethren before taking the big step. So if you have any comments (good or bad), please speak up now or forever hold your peace.

Thanks.

Well I guess "no news is good news." Having heard nothing new about about the Gilmore reels to sway my decision, I will be ordering the X400 today. --127-3- While it is capable of handling a 10-wt line and plenty of backing, I will be using it with a standard arbor for a 9-weight and with a large arbor for an 8-weight. I let you all know how it performs. :)
