Pardon the lousy pun, but I just started tying my own flies and and am having a blast! --127-3-
Now I see why you guys tie your own.
I took a tying class with Bob Thunberg at the Lower Forty recently. Great teacher. Tied four trout patterns, which gave me the basics that I needed, then Jim set me up with a modest selection of materials to tie saltwater patterns.
Below is a pic of the second fly I've ever tied outside of the class, a squid based largely on Shaun Ruge's pattern but with a couple of minor substitutions and modifications. Thanks Shaun. (The first fly I tied was a deciever, but I kind of tied it, um, upside-down. Chartreuse on the bottom, white on the top. )
Anyway, after I get a little more practice under my belt I might start trying to elbow my way into a fly swap or two!
