I can't speak to the 9-wt, but I bought a 4-wt and was very pleased for the price.

I'd check out Temple Fork Outfitters Lefty Kreh Signature Series I fly rods, two piece go for the same as the Gallatin and is has become a highly respected fly rod in the fishing world. The 4 piece version cost about $40 bucks more, but you are getting a lot better of a rod then the Gallatin.
If you are looking for you're first rod try using the search on this forum with "Beginner rod" or "Temple Fork", its what got me started

Any update from anyone on these Gallatin Onyx rods?
I recently saw them online, and am interested in the 5-6 piece travel rods in the 5-6 and 9 weight classes. Seems a lot cheaper than the Orvis Frequent Flyer rods.
Any better travel alternatives / suggestions?
Thanks -

I had a 4wt. 8.5-foot, 5-pc. Onyx that broke at the handle when I rather gently raised the rod tip after setting the hook in a 12-ounce largemouth bass. The blank above the handle looked like broken wet bamboo. It was mush. I wmailed Gallatin at least six times trying to find out how to get the rod fixed, but none of my emails were answered. My advice is buy from a different manufacturer.

I had a 6 wt and it worked fine.
Sold it to a friend and he reported liking it too.
