Has anyone had a chance to check out this documentary flick out about fishing in NYC??? It is playing this week on the Sundance Channel. I think it had previously been shown around at film festivals and stuff. I had initially heard about it from a friend who works in the marine insurance industry who got an invite to a private screening with the director. This week someone gave the same buddy a copy of the DVD, which I had a chance to watch.

Just an interesting and, at times, very humorous look at all aspects of fishing in NYC (including the seemingly absurd premise that NYC is a great place to fish). Its got catching stripers in the Gowanus Canal, commercial vs. recreational arguments, albies off the breezy point jetty, pulling dead bodies out of the water and a little fly fishing too. What makes it fun is lots of really interesting characters (and maybe a few who are regulars on this website).

Anyway, I recommend it to all. Here's a link to the home page for the movie: http://www.gothamfishtales.com/splash.htm.

If you have never fished there I hope you a just kidding. There are so many opportunities to catch stripers. blues and weaks along with other species it a shame more people don't take advantage of it. The scenery is ....well the NYC skyline and from the water it looks nice....for fishing near a big city.

I didn't mean to imply that I consider fishing in NYC "absurd", but the whole point of the movie is that the general public has no idea that there is this great natural resource and that the perception is that fishing in places like the Gowanus Canal is absurd.
