Need to locate a 25hp (or so) motor in decent to above average running condition. Motor is for a 15' 6" skiff I have just aquired.
Not certain how to determine if long or short shaft is needed- anybody help me there?
Will consider any motor even if in need of minor repair over 10-15hp that anyone is willing to part with just to get on the water sometime this spring! Live in R.I but will travel where-ever I need to go to.

A short shaft engine 15" -- Long Shaft 20". (From the motor bracket) For your boat, if the transom height is say, 16" to 18" high -short will probably work. Ideally you want the top of the motor cavitation plate about an inch below your boat.
If the skiff transom is over 18" your going to need a long shaft 20".
If your find small HP 25" shafts those guys typically end up on sail boats.
Good Luck with your skiff.
