Now that the forsythia are in bloom, has anyone fished the Indian Head for shad? Any reports would be appreciated. I did see that they dumped some trout in last week.

I would definitely start checking for those telltale wakes this weekend. I'll be out in Chicopee tomorrow, rain and all, to check the run there. Will report when I return.

I was there this morning and did not see any shad. Herring are just starting to come in. Shouldn't be too much longer...the herring run in Pembroke has been packed with people the past few days.

I did pick up a nice 12" brookie and a 10" brown though. Bigger than expected, last time I fished it 2 yrs ago the trout still had par marks. Some tan caddis and hendrickson's coming off, lots of them around my house this evening.

Thanks for your report. Sounds like you live down in the area. I live up in the Northshore, so last few times I have driven down there to find either that I am too late or early.

I was there on Monday, also caught a brookie, but not as big as yours..

I know the Shad run was not that good last year.. How has it been other recent years. I get conflicting reports...some say that it has gotten worst over the years but then other say that it was really good a couple years ago..

Thanks for the update, would appreciate more so I dont keep missing the run..

Thanks for the information. It's nice to see some healthy trout up there. I'll probably make an evening jaunt this weekend and report back on Monday.

Sorry but nothing to report from the weekend. I never made it up to the stream. However, I did see some guys fishing for stripers in Duxbury. Initially I ththought that were a bit looped (#$119), but I have seen reports of fish. Who knows? Maybe they're getting used to these New England Springs.

DW,

There was actually a pretty good pulse of bright stripers up to keeper size that came through Ply-Dux area over a week ago, but it died down by the weekend probably because a series of cold fronts came through. The big warmup for the next four days should really jazz up reports everywhere south of Boston, including shad in the North.

The shad in the Chicopee and to some extent the Conn Rivers have already started, but not in huge numbers yet. Picked up a half dozen out there over the weekend.
