Offshore fly reel on the planet today.
Although some would argue the Henschel or Steelfin Abyss has claim to the title, I would strongly disagree.
Just recieved my Hayden Number 6 back from Australia. Many anglers here at Reel-time probably have never heard of Hayden Fly Reels.
Although performance was never an issue, the finish had begun chipping in a couple of spots. Terry Hayden refinished the reel in a black anodizing, and also added a larger 2 inch disc drag. It is a double teflon disc sytem and seemingly bulletproof.
Tested the drag at the workshop and managed 35#'s of drag, mainly because the scale only went to 35#'s. I am pretty confident that it's will push close to 50#'s. Jumping into the Penn/Shimano 50# class.
I can't wait for some warmer weather to give this reel some proper use. Just my 2 cents and a little info sharing for anyone interested.
