View Full Version : East end this weekend???
Anyone starting to fish the east end yet this season???
My boat is now apparently in the water and I hope to do at minimum a shakedown cruise this weekend and sqeeze in a little fishing if possible. Also, might try to do some wading at dusk tom'w, somewhere on the bay side.
I'm going out this weekend. I trust the Jim Hull report on the weekly last week, and have been told by a reliable source there are some fish if you find back bay warm areas. (Thank you reliable source.) I am actually hoping I might pick up a bass in 3 mile harbor in the am (although it may be too early for that).
In any case, I sure hope my boat is actually in the water (marina said it would be there last weekend) and the old optibomb, oops, I mean my wonderful Merc engine actually starts and keeps working for the day.
Next weekend I am going to do a Friday off fishing day, but I am really looking forward to getting on the salt water for the first time tomorrow.
From taking a general reading of internet reports it sounds like theres a lot of cocktail blues in pretty much everywhere along the south shore (but don't know whether they've made their way into Peconic/Gardiners Bay) and some small bass on the south side at Montauk . . . but again have seen no real reports of Peconic/Gardiners. . . .
Tuna: Maybe you should keep your eye out for weaks as I think they may definitely be around. If the bass are kind of slow, I was actually contemplating going fluke fishing as it would be kind of fun to catch one of the big fluke that are apparently around this time of year.

Good luck. I may see you out there although I won't have much time on the water. I was told my brand new 4-stroke overheated when the marina took it out for the first test run. --124-3
I fished with Jim Hull last saturday and all we managed was a bunch of really and I mean really little bass on the flyrod though he had a very nice fish take a swipe at his pencil popper. We did mark a decent amount of fish but couldn't entice many to eat. Will be doing it again tomorrow so if this get better I will let you know.
Hawk: Mind if I ask as to whether that was at Montauk or way back west around Shelter, etc.
Not at all, we were from the South ferry all the way back to Jessups and most spots inbetween. Jim has pulled some decent fish out of those waters this season we just couldn't connect on Sat. I am hoping this change tomorrow.

I had confirmation from a very reliable source that there were some flats loaded with bass last week ... would be unfair to source for me to pinpoint the spot ...suffice it to say west of Sag.
