Nothing is more fun than big stripers, or any size stripers for that matter on poppers.........J-Bay flats yielded this 36" and several others, in addition to a fish that snapped 20# tippet like it was 2# and a fish that completely straightened out a 3/0 hook 5 min into the fight. Back bay, dropping tide, color nor size of poppers seemed to matter, as long as it made a racket. Thanks again Johnny Mac, Karl and I had a blast, and I'm sure Karl will not soon forget your advice on fishing for stripers on poppers.

That's a very nice fish. I was fishing J/Bay yesterday over by F/B/Field and I can't get a hit while using poppers even on the flats where I knew there were some nice big stripers on. Would love to be able to get those stripers to hit a popper. I never seem to have any luck using them(poppers). I couldn't believe all the small bluefish that are back there now. I must have lost 10-15flies on them. But they're are some bigger ones starting to show up. I wouldn't mind catching those toothy critters when there 10+pounds and up.

Pete Mac, Great fish!! I wanted to pick your brain for a minute. I am planning on heading for my first excursion over to IBSP on Saturday. I believe the high tide is about 10:40AM at the inlet, do you know what the difference is back at area 15? I was going to fish the incoming which sounds like it has been okay. Also, can I drive down to 15? I wanted to check with you, seeing you are the area expert and I will be using your flies to hopefully slay them!!!!! :D

Any info is much appreciated!!!! If anyone is heading that way, let me know if you want to meet up.

Peter -
do you know what hook that was on the popper - I want to stay away from those ....... I've been using Owner 51031 hooks - never had a hook failure (but I'm hoping for a fish that can.......)
