My father is a double amputee. He's too big a man to carry, but he has an electric and push wheelchair. Does anyone know of a boat which can accomodate such a person on a charter in the NY/NJ area? All leads would be appreciated. Thank you all.

I remember once seeing something somewhere that there is a charter boat somewhere on Long Island (maybe north fork??) that specializes in taking out wheelchair-bound folks. Unfortunately I don't remember the details, but if you run a bunch of google searches, I'm sure you'll eventually come up with it. Good luck.

B, this might be a little off the topic exactly, but i remember really recently (within the past 3 months) an article or tv show about a guy who is in a wheelchair who lives in southwest florida, and has modified the chair with big kind of ball-shaped tires, and he was snook fishing from the beach... i don't know if this would help, but maybe it's something to look into... there is great opportunity to fish from beaches... maybe this would be somewhat of an answer... i think the article appeared in one of the fly fishing magazines. i will look at my back issues, if i can find it i'll let you know. good luck.

Boat is the Rainbow. Capt. is Bob Rocchetta - holder of the striped bass record for a few months(76 lbs). Boat is in Orient Point at Orient-by-the-Sea Marina. 631-765-4314.

Try The Capt Mike in howard Beach. Great Captain. I know of a wheelchair bound guy who always fishes on his boat.

I believe, The "Rainbow" has a handicap "door" on the side of the boat for easy handicaped access.

There's another boat operated by a wheel chair bound Captain along with his brother, I believe, somewhere in Nassau on the South Shore. The name "Hydro-therapy" comes to mind. Same deal, a custom Parker with a swing door to allow for entry.

Enjoy your time with your Dad and Good Luck.
