If the gas line connected?
Is the fuel bulb pumped up to pressure?
Is kill switch on?
Does it need to be gassed up?
Otherwise it may be a fuel pump problem.

I like the the kill switch Idea I was washing my boat last season & pulled the hose across the lanyard and moved the switch. I took me about 20 minutes to figure out what happened. The lanyard was still in place it just pulled enough to move the switch but not come off.

Recently hosed the boat down at th dock... somehow the kill switch became detached. Spent the next 30 minutes trying to figure out what the hell happened. Thinking a Honda with 130hrs on it shouldnt poop the bed so soon I remembered another time that it happened while cleaning.
A silly thing indeed but usually overlooked :brow
Yo dollah! Check yer pm...

Isn't it amazing that the kill switch is the most likely reason a motor will not start and it is the last thing we check when we are trying to figure out why?
Makes me feel like an idiot.

MY new etec works differently. when the lanyard is pulled a sleeve is pulled off the ignition switch cause the key to rotate into the off position. The motor can be started without the "kill switch" engaged. The reasoning??? Apparently there was a situation where a boat operator fell out of the boat with the lanyard attached killing the motor. He drowned because the passengers could not restart the motor to go to his aid.
Capri any word on what the motor problem was?

Whoa!! Never thought of that from the other end of the lanyard!
Certainly I have a spare kill switch key on board............but I'm the only one that knows where it is!!!!
I always make certain my passengers know how to operate the boat for in case of whatever need may arise, and now I will always keep the spare kill switch key in an obvious place, like the key ring, and tell passengers where it is and how to use it.
Thanks for the insight.

Yes i think we all have done it with the kill switch thing....the second year i had my boat...i was getting it ready..for first run. Well hooked the hose up to it to crank it over...it would'nt start...i was there for a half hour scratching my head as what could be wrong....checking gas, plugs etc.....then my wife hangs her head out the window...says whats the matter...i said...blah blah the thing wont start...she simply says to me...did you flip that safety thingie where the key goes in.....i just look at her with a stupid ass grin...and says...ummm NO....flipped the switch..and ...vrrrmmmmm....lol
Just thought i would share...and ill always look at that switch first from now on if i have trouble...
Have a good one Bob H

JakeFF:
You actually ADMITTED that to her!!!!
You traitor!!! SHAME!!!
Do you pull over to gas up when she thinks your almost outa gas!!! Do you actually look at a map when she thinks you are lost!!!!!!!!!
You coulda at least looked at her with sarcasm and said "Of course I did, do I look that stoopid"?............then fiddle around with something else, beat on the cowling, cuss it, then start the engine.
