Do you live in TR fulltime, or is it a summer house? I live in north New Jersey so I can reccommend a shop up this way. I do know of a shop in Red Bank, which is still a bit of a ride from TR.
What kind of fishing are you planning to do? Bay or ocean? Wade or boat?
9-foot, 9wt is a good "all-around" rod for bass, blues and weakfish.
Barnegat bay/inlet is a prime area to fish, as is Island Beach state park.
Get yourslef some clousers, jiggies and deceivers in chartreuse/white, pink/white and yellow. That ought to get you started.
Give yourself a budget, because you can spnd a ton on this stuff.

Thanks for that.
It is a summer house, im back over for 3 wks over July.
Dont mind travelling for the right gear.
I am considering all types of fishing, I have a grady and fish B/Bay and ocean, and have a pass for ISP for surf fishing.
Problem i'm having though is advise on what sort of setup and what takes what.
I have set myself a budget of $500
What do you think?

hi james, if you can spend $500., you can probably do ok with a decent rod and reel. i own a bunch of top of the line rods (sage and scott), but was given a tfo rod for xmas, and it's great. i don't think it cost more than $200. it's the new ti cr model. i definitely would recommend it. you would probably want the 9 wt. also, redington makes a decent rod, and i wouldn't discount trying to find an older sage rplx or xp on e bay. you might get one for $250 or so. with reels, make sure it has a smooth drag. bauer makes a model that you might find in the $200 range, it's the lm series, they've been discontinued but they're good, and you can probably find one. if you can spend more money on a reel, get an abel or a tibor--it's worth it but a lot more $$$. good luck.

England:
I am going to be staying on Long Beach Island from 7/17 to 8/7, and I fish Barnegat Bay, the inlet and the ocean. I could show you around a little if you want to meet up. LBI is about a 20 minute ride from TR. There is a boat launch, gas etc. right behind the lighthouse. I know the bay a bit.
I can also put you in touch with my local fly shop, and they can have everything ready to go for you when you get here. $500.00 should get you started.
PM me for more info if interested.
