Hi fellas. First time on here, but have been looking in as of late. Some great topics and really useful stuff!
Main thing is, that I'm visiting Scorton Creek in mid-September. Will be fishing as much as I can........though it is my honeymoon, (doh!) and basically looking for some pointers.
Hoping to fish for striper, and will be bringing the nine weight outfit, as well as the lure rod to cover unforseen circumstances. Line advice, favorite flies, lures, etc. would be very much appreciated.
Was over there in 2002, late-September, but it seems that the stripers were late in moving back down that year (heard that they arrived toward late-October). Did see lots of good blues come to lures, though none to the fly. I actually thought that I'd fished Scorton Creek then, but it would seem that I fished the creek between the canal and Scorton.
While looking at another thread, I noticed that the Sandwich hatchery is about to close. If true, that is so sad as it's a fab place and I paid it a few long visits while I was there, as my fiancees relative worked there at the time, though not any more I'm told. Must be a huge loss to adults and kids alike.
Cheers! See you on the water. Pesca.

I visit Scortons in September once a year and there are a lot of guys on this site that have given me advice on fishing the area but I wouldn't trust them on advice for your Honeymoon. --127-3-

1 Don't let your fishing get in the way of your honeymoon.
2. The hatchery got a reprieve so is still functioning.
3. Besides scorton's you can also fish The Sandwich Old harbor area.
Take new wife on a lovely stroll across the boardwalk to the beach, turn right and fish the pool where the two creeks merge. complete the walk to the front beach and if tide is up stroll back along the beach casting as you go.
I get to fish, my wife gets her beach walk and we are both happy (34 years)

Pesca, Scortoncreekkid here. I'd like to extend a welcoming hand and show you and the new wife around the creek if you are willing. I have a small cottage at the mouth of the creek. Been fishing the creek for almost 30 years now. Mid September can be great for stripers and blues right off the beach in front of the cottage. Last year I had 3 of my mates down to fish. I was fishing the creek instead of the beach, big mistake on my part. They all hooked up on 30"+ fish. I did not. Dale one of my fellow coworkers caught a 40lb fish. This was his first striper that he had ever caught! We were using flies, plugs, and eels. All caught fish that day. On a side note my grandpa was a yank in the R. A. F. before the States got into the war. He married an English girl before the war. My MOM was born in Sussex, England. She was in the land army as a young girl during the war. My Uncle Derry was only 20 years old when his B-17 went down on the last day of the war. His B-17 was the last lost in combat in the war in the European theater. Hope to hear from you soon. Tight lines from the KID.

Cheers Bob Parsons and scortoncreekkid!
Bob, I'll certainly take your advice regarding the beachfront walks, as I have to realise that this is a honeymoon, and not just a fishing trip.
To you kid, I'll certainly take you up on your offer, if that's okay? I'm sure that my wife (as she'll be then) will love the tour as well. It's actually her relatives that live in Sandwhich (Forestdale I think). Her aunt is from here in England, and her uncle was born in Sandwhich, I think. It's his brother that used to work at the hatchery until earlier this year. Great to hear that you've a lot of history going on over here too. We'll have a cottage quite near to the creek (Ploughed Neck).
As I say, I intended bringing a nine weight outfit and a selection of lines. Will bring a range of flies, but will probably try and get the rest locally. Keen to take your local knowledge on board, and I really do appreciate your offer. It's very kind of you. :)
See you on the water.

Pesca: Glad to help out a fellow fisher of the fly. As for buying flies, well we will just have to tie some up for you. I'll due up some of my scorton creek specials for you.
[Maybe some of the other REEL-TIMERS that read this post would like to get in on tying up some flies for you as a wedding gift. They can send me the flies and I'll give them to you when you come to fish].
My wife is a fly fisher and tier. Is your wife to be the same? Great fun when both can enjoy a great sport like fly fishing. You can send me a private message and I'll give you my phone number so you can call us when you want to fish. Maybe we can set up a cook out on the back deck of cottage. Tight lines from the KID. Scortoncreekkid, that is very kind of you and your good wife indeed. Last time I was over, I brought Clousers and Deceivers, and while visiting a local tackle shop I bought a few sand eel flies made from mylar tubing.
Wonder if you're having much success with the fishing at the moment. Unsure if it's a good time of year for you over there.
My fiancee is not into fishing herself, but understands my passion for it, and enjoys the idea of that.
In 2002, I didn't realise that such strong tippets were needed, so didn't bring any. I bought wire over there but it wasn't too good. Do you use mono or wire as a shock tippet, and what length?
If I can figure out how to do it, I'll contact you beyond this forum. By the way, what outfit do you use? Do you do any lure fishing for the stripers, or fly only?
Stay lucky! Pesca.
