Pax and I did the DI loop yesterday evening. Heading west to Faun, not one fish marked. Went to the last exposed rock and pulled one good fish off that rock in abiout 5 feet of water on a white gurgler 3/0. Saw a good disturbance behind the fly, and for once when it sliced though the second time I didn't rip the fly out o its mouth. I can;t figure out how I hooked it though. Behind the lip, down through the roof of th emouth, and back up into the bone in the snout. No way I was losing this fish. Weighed 13.8lbs on the digital and marked out around 34" on my paddle (measured later). Released to fight another day. That was the only bump of the evening. Pax was livelinging an eel while he fly casted too...not a bump.

Rounded the corner towards DI light and back along the lit up shore line. His fishfinder went nuts the whiole way. I heard nothing but beeping. Most of the marks were in the bottom 1/4 of the column in 15 to 20' of water. Tried dragging bottom with a sinking line and a deciever but nothing...

Nice fish Shaun. As to marking fish low in the column, I was out at the Brewsters with the same scenario. Marked fish but couldn't get them to eat anything. Finally tried a cod jig, turned out they were pollack.

Yep, that's what we ended concluding too. I marked a few big fish though: either stripers or cod. Time to carry some type of jigs for cod.

Good job guys.

That's a nice fish on the flyrod.
Cool.

Nice report. 3/0 is a pretty bigger gurgler I expect. I have found they take big flies deep as well. My theory is they are expecting a 1-2 lb bait and instead get something essentially weightless with no resistance.
